"You don't have to cook fancy or complicated masterpieces - just good food from fresh ingredients." - Julia Child
What is Paleo?
I've never been into the word diet, to me, diet means "I'm starving". Starving does not sound appealing to me. I like eating and cooking too much to ever be on a traditional "diet". That's why I like paleo. It's a lifestyle, not a diet. I eat real food. REAL FOOD.
What do we eat?
All Animal proteins (must have parents)
Vegetables (excluding white potatoes)
Fruit (in moderation)
Nuts and Seeds (in moderation)
Quality Fats and Oils (Coconut mostly)
What don't we eat?
Processed foods
Grains (including Quinoa)
Legumes (including peanuts!)
Soy
Dairy
White Potatoes
Added sugar
I am not a nutritionist or a food scientist of any kind, you should not consider me an expert in that field. But what I lack in expertise, I make up for with superior Googling skills. There are many, many resources available on the web, below are a list of my favorite sources that can help you better understand what Paleo is and why I (and you) chose this way of eating.

Katie,
ReplyDeleteI love your pictures of food that I can eat: Just wish you were here to cook it for me!
I found something about the Paleo Autoimmune Diet on your friend's blog. I decided to give it a try. I am mostly on it already- just have to give up raw goat yogurt and kefir, nuts, honey and fruit! I did go without the fruit and honey for 6 months before, but didn't notice much difference. In two days I am getting a surgery for deviated septum and enlarged turbinates. Hopefully, that will help. I mean, it couldn't hurt to be able to breathe right? lol
